About Susan Braithwaite

Choosing a hypnotherapist is a personal decision.

That’s especially true if you’re dealing with anxiety, stress, habits, or self-doubt that you’ve been managing quietly for a long time.

I’m Susan Braithwaite, a hypnotherapist based in Airdrie, working with clients across Scotland online and in person.

HOW I CAME TO THIS WORK

Before training as a hypnotherapist, I was—and still am—a fiction writer.

Like many creatives and professionals, I struggled with long-term anxiety, perfectionism, and a gradual erosion of confidence. On the outside, I was capable and functioning. On the inside, I was constantly managing pressure, self-criticism, and the sense that I should be coping better than I was.

What became clear over time was that insight wasn’t the problem.

I understood why I felt the way I did. I just couldn’t shift it.

After years of hitting the burnout-cycle, I knew I needed help. Hypnotherapy was the first approach that helped me work with all of those issues at the level they were actually happening. Instead of forcing change, hypnotherapy addressed the emotional and subconscious processes beneath them. The change wasn’t dramatic or instant. It was steady, grounding, and lasting.

That experience is what led me to train and practise as a hypnotherapist.

WHO I WORK WELL WITH

I work particularly well with people who are thoughtful, capable, and used to relying on themselves—including many creatives and professionals.

This often includes people who:

  • think deeply and analyse a lot
  • hold themselves to high standards
  • struggle with perfectionism or over-responsibility
  • feel anxious or on edge despite “doing fine”
  • have lost confidence through stress or burnout rather than lack of ability

You don’t need to be creative to work with me. But if you are, you may recognise the pattern of insight without ease, or understanding without relief.

HOW I WORK

My approach is calm, structured, and client-led.

I don’t rush people, and I don’t believe in pushing through resistance or overwhelming the nervous system. At the same time, I’m not interested in endlessly circling problems without creating real movement.

In sessions, we work with:

  • emotional and nervous system patterns
  • subconscious responses rather than willpower alone
  • change that holds up in real life, not just in theory

You remain aware, grounded, and in control throughout. Hypnotherapy isn’t something done to you. It’s a collaborative process that allows change to happen safely and at a pace that makes sense.

AREAS I SPECIALISE IN

I support clients in Airdrie and online across Scotland with:

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM ME

People I’ve worked with tell me they value that I am:

  • calm and grounded
  • clear rather than vague
  • non-judgemental without being permissive
  • practical as well as compassionate

I take suitability seriously. If I don’t believe hypnotherapy—or working with me—is the right next step, I’ll help you think about alternatives.

THE NEXT STEP

If you’re considering working together, the first step is a short, no-pressure consultation.

We’ll talk through what’s been happening, what you’d like instead, and whether my approach makes sense for you.
